Cost fear under new Community Equipment changes

An independent report produced for industry and conducted by the centre for economics and business research ltd, has found the new model of delivery could trigger economic cost of up to £13.4 million per annum nationally. Their analysis suggests that the TCES system is a less efficient system in environmental terms resulting in annual economic cost of £186,000 due to additional landfill waste and £28,000 due to additional carbon dioxide emissions.

New TCES briefing - London development

As was announced at the NAEP Conference earlier this yea by the TCES team, the Joint Improvement Partnership (JIP) team working in partnership with Care Services Efficiency Delivery (CSED) are now completing the final planning activity to deliver a 2-year regional roll out of the retail solution for simple aids to daily living (SADLs) across London.

Pick and mix order of the day as ‘hybrid' becomes the new retail model buzzword

Just as the NAEP Conference was getting underway, a report from trouble torn Iran appeared on a news programme. The reporter, suggesting that the country was in a degree of turmoil used the expression, ‘The future is the land of guesswork'. In a way, that could sum up where we are with the TCES programme and the retail model. Things are happening, that's for sure, but many of the things that are happening are resulting in different, new and unique solutions. So, lots to take in from a couple of days in Blackpool….

CEDAB hits back

A few days ago the DoH issued a statement that suggested the CEDAB (the Community Equipment Dispenser Accrediation Body) was being scrapped after less than a year in operation. The body is run jointly by NAEP and the BHTA.

The DoH statement read…“A local approach to accreditation means that the CEDAB national accreditation body and infrastructure, tested over the past year, is no longer appropriate.”

However, it seems that CEDAB isn't just going to lie down and play dead and it has issued a robust reply from the Board of the organisation. This is what it says….

Full Ricability report on prescriptions

Following on from the information released by the BHTA in regard to the survey undertaken by Ricability on the subject of prescriptions through the retail model, we now have the full Ricability report.

We also have a reaction from one of the retailers involved in the Cheshire retail model but whose figures are not part of the survey.

Call for further survey of retail prescription activity

One year on from MORI research indicating that 84% of users of community equipment would collect it from retail dispensers themselves, a survey conducted by Ricability for BHTA has shown that at one retail outlet, just 10% of users collected equipment themselves
