Adret Gibs Ltd is the company behind Drinkup, the handsfree drinking system. Managing Director Chris Adams is the designer and innovator of the Drinkup system.
The Drinkup concept came about through necessity in 1997, when a close relative of the innovator's grandmother was involved in a serious fall resulting in hospitalisation.It soon became evident that she the patient couldn't drink anything at all at all without constantly having to ask for help. This caused her the patient great feelings of anxiety, a feeling of helplessness and symptoms of dehydration. A very simple but highly effective device was made to deal with these problems, which in turn provided a constant source of hydration to quench her thirst and aid her to the patient's recovery.
Research then showed that existing products were quite limited in their scope of use and that none were designed for organised, managed, easy, cost effective use throughout professional healthcare provision or simply by people in their own homes, who needed more versatile yet affordable equipment.
The idea of providing a system to address these issues then came about, coinciding with the 'push' and policy writing to provide better nutrition and hydration to all those in various care situations, especially for the elderly.
Through much development the device became the patented Drinkup system, designed to assist less able, vulnerable and elderly people in all situations, whether at home, in long term care or in hospital.
The Drinkup system can now adapted for ‘lightweight' attachment to a wheelchair and is compatible with the Mobilia system, providing different mounting solutions. Adret Gibs also have range of hydration products including the Platypus range of drinking vessels, Hydrate for Heath's ‘Hydrant' drinks bottle drinks bottle, the Mobilia mounting system, a selection of holding devices and the full range of specialist and the full range of specialist drinking of cups and glasses vessels from the Danish Finnish company Rika Care.
