Thieves’ plan for a retailers’ stolen van scrapped

A scrapyard has helped mobility retailer Millercare Mobility recover a van that was stolen outside its Bolton store on the 12thApril.

The thieves attempted to sell the retailer’s bright red van at The Scrapper Ltd, a car breakers and scrappage yard based in Bolton, but were thwarted when the scrappage company contacted Millercare after suspecting something was amiss.

As reported by The Bolton News, the scrapyard lowered the premises’ exit barriers to prevent the thieves from escaped with the vehicle.

An employee of The Scrappers told The Bolton News: "Two lads came in and I messaged a colleague to ring Millercare to see if the van had been stolen and put the barrier down and blocked the guys.

"They got twitchy and were after leaving. They were asking us to move cars to let them out.

"One of them rammed one of the cars and one of ours pulled him out of the van.

"The police arrested him."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 27-year-old man was remanded in custody following the incident.

Andy Howarth, Branch Manager at the Bolton Millercare store, told the newspaper: "We're really pleased and we're going to bring them some chocolates.

"Thankfully they had the foresight to phone us up, otherwise we would have lost the van."
