New report looks at ‘complicated, unregulated' market
A new report looking at the market for equipment and services designed primarily to enable independence for older people and disabled people in particular has been published by Consumer Focus.
A few weeks ago, in response to the Office of Fair Trading's (OFT) decision to conduct an investigation into the mobility aids market, Prashant Vaze, head of fair markets at Consumer Focus said:“We are delighted that the OFT has decided to act on this issue after we presented our evidence to it earlier this year. Our research into the disability equipment market shows that there are potentially big problems in this area.”
He added; “Clearly people using mobility aids are among the most vulnerable in our society and action needs to be taken to ensure they do not lose out. This is a really complicated, unregulated market so it is difficult to get a full picture of the scale of consumer detriment. It is therefore really welcome that the OFT has listened to our concerns and will be using its powers to make a full investigation of this sector.”
