I get an email every single day from a holiday company. I
signed up for a newsletter from them months ago, but didn’t quite expect to get
something every single day!
Because it’s always useful to catch a ‘deal’ when you are
ready to take a break, I sort of put up with the daily intrusion in the hope
that one day, a deal will appear that makes it all worthwhile.
However, the bombardment is unsustainable in the long
term and you don’t need too many companies popping stuff through on a daily
basis before it gets a little too much and you switch off.
And that’s one of the advantages of the new venture we
are involved in – the-market.org.
Suppliers who trade through the-market can produce short
update items and the retailers that do business with them can read them, all in
one place. It means that a retailer could, potentially, pick up all the updates
from 10, 20, 30, 40 or more suppliers, all on one page and all at one time and
that means they are far more likely to take notice of them and take action.
Back to the holiday company and there’s something else
that they are doing which may be causing them an issue when it comes to getting
those emails opened.
It’s the style of the offer. Every single one is the best
offer yet, an unbelievable deal, amazing discounts, incredible upgrades etc,
etc, etc. The problem is, when you do occasionally take a look, the offer doesn’t
match up to the headline and that’s when you start to think that it might not
be worth opening them in the first place.
Yes, you have to create interest, but not at the cost of
switching people off.
So, the question is….what turns you off when companies
are trying to sell to you?
